The Austin Peay Governors and the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles meet Thursday in college basketball action from Eblen Center.
Austin Peay enters this game at 14-10 so far. The Governors are 1-2 in their last three and coming off a loss to Eastern Illinois. As for Tennessee Tech, they’re 3-22 this year. Austin Peay has had a decent run this year, but haven’t been able to sustain any winning streaks beyond three games. The Governors are 3-2 in their last five beating UT Martin, SEMO and SIU Edwardsville while otherwise falling to SEMO and Eastern Illinois in that time.
In the 76-69 loss to Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor led the team on 25 points with 11 rebounds. Mike Peake also doubled up on 14 points and 10 boards, and Reginald Gee had 11 points with one assist.
Over on the Tennessee Tech side, there aren’t many positive things to say about this season so far. The Eagles lost nine straight before getting a win over SEMO, then four more before a win over Tennessee State. Tennessee Tech has lost to Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee State and Belmont in their last three.
In the 90-66 blowout loss to Belmont, Tennessee Tech’s Damaria Franklin was the leading scorer with 18 points and seven rebounds. The only other Eagles player in double-figures there was Keishawn Davidson with 13 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Tennessee Tech is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 Thursday games and 1-5 ATS in the last six overall. The over is 5-0 in the Eagles’ last five overland 5-1 in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, the Governors are 21-7-2 ATS in their last 30 Thursday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games. Austin Peay is 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss and the over is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Tennessee Tech here. The last time these teams met up, Austin Peay delivered a relatively slim 72-69 win on January 21 that started off another Eagles losing streak. The good news is that Tennessee Tech has been scoring fairly well over their last four games, with 72 or more points in three of those. If the Eagles can get that offense moving I can see them covering in this one.
