Morehead State got off to a rocky 6-5 start this year. The Eagles then went on a nice 10-game win streak that lasted from December 18 to January 27. In their last appearance Saturday, the Eagles saw their streak snapped versus Murray State.
Matched up against the Racers over the weekend, the Eagles put up a 33-28 deficit in the first half and a 44-38 run from there in a 77-66 loss. Leading scorer Skyelar Potter finished on 16 points and seven boards. Johni Broome added 14 points with 11 boards.
Over on the Tennessee Tech side, they’ve had a rough and inconsistent year so far. The Golden Eagles are yet to win consecutive games. Since their last win over SIU Edwardsville, Tennessee Tech has lost to Murray State (twice) and Austin Peay.
In Saturday’s game versus Austin Peay, the Golden Eagles scored just 19 points in the first half. Tennessee Tech made a valiant 36-28 run in the second but came up short 58-55. Jr. Clay was the leading scorer on the team with 18 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Tennessee Tech is 5-20-1 ATS in their last 26 Monday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss. The over is 5-1 in the Golden Eagles’ last six at home.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 road games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four overall. The under is 5-1 in Tennessee Tech’s last six Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Morehead State. The Eagles had a rough outing versus Murray State in their last game, getting out-rebounded 38-33 with 15 total turnovers. Morehead State had been on a good scoring run prior to that, though; they’d hit 71 or more points in five of six prior games.
As for Tennessee Tech, they’ve shown a few flashes of potential this year but overall haven’t been able to maintain a groove. I think the Golden Eagles will hang around for a short while here before Morehead State gets back to form and covers.
