The George Mason Patriots and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena. George Mason is sitting on a four-game win streak at 7-1 overall following a win over Toledo on Saturday. As for Tennessee, they’ve lost three straight, most recently versus North Carolina. George Mason Patriots 

The Patriots opened the year with a three-game win streak over Monmouth, Austin Peay and Cornell, then took a loss to Charlotte 54-49. George Mason hit another win streak after that with wins over South Dakota State, East Carolina and NJIT in the next trio. In the win over NJIT 86-68, the Patriots shot a nice 50 percent from the field with 43 rebounds. 

George Mason was able to keep it going with their latest victory over Toledo on Saturday. The Patriots were up 40-35 by the break, then hit another 46 points in the second half for an 86-77 result. Leading the team in scoring with a double-double was Amari Kelly with 24 points and 10 rebounds. 

Tennessee Volunteers 

Over on the Volunteers’ side, they also opened up the year with a win streak over Tennessee Tech, Wisconsin, Wofford and Syracuse in their first four games. Tennessee had a tough run of games after that, falling to Purdue and Kansas in their next pair. The Vols lost 69-60 in the Jayhawks matchup, giving up 51.9 percent shooting along the way. 

Tennessee had another tricky game versus North Carolina in their latest outing. The Volunteers coughed up 61 points in the first half and ended up falling 100-92 despite 53 points from there. Leading the team in the losing effort was Dalton Knecht with 37 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

ANDREW’S FREE GEORGE MASON VS TENNESSEE PREDICTION 

I may just take Tennessee in this one. The Volunteers have had three tough matchups in a row against top-shelf national teams, and predictably they’ve fallen in each. That said, Tennessee didn’t post too bad of a second-half showing in the North Carolina game and ended up shooting 55.6 percent from the field overall. The Vols have 73 or more points in five of their seven games so far and shouldn’t have too many issues scoring on Tuesday. 

As for George Mason, this will certainly be their toughest matchup of the season. The Patriots have scored quite well themselves so far, with 72 or more points in six of their eight outings. I don’t think George Mason will be able to keep a cover pace if Tennessee gets going, though.
