The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena. Illinois beat Florida Atlantic in their last outing, moving the Illini to 7-1 overall. As for Tennessee, they’re 5-3 on the season and coming off a win over George Mason. Let’s get into our Illinois vs. Tennessee prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini have just the one loss on the card so far, a 71-64 result versus Marquette in game three. Outside of that, Illinois took out Eastern Illinois, Oakland, Valparaiso, Southern, Western Illinois and Rutgers in their first seven outings. In the 76-58 victory over the Knights, Illinois held a 55-27 rebounding advantage and shot 45.5 percent from the field.

Illinois recorded another victory against a tough team in Florida Atlantic during their last outing. The Illini were down 42-39 by the break, then hit a nice 59-47 run in the second half for a 98-89 win. Leading scorers Marcus Domask (six rebounds) and Terrence Shannon (two assists) each had 33 points.

Tennessee Volunteers

Over on the Volunteers’ side, they managed to kick off the season with four straight wins over Tennessee Tech, Wisconsin, Wofford and Syracuse. Tennessee would then take three straight losses to ranked squads Purdue, Kansas and North Carolina. The Volunteers gave up 42.9 percent shooting to the Tar Heels in the 100-92 result.

Tennessee was able to get back into the win column in their last matchup versus George Mason. The Volunteers stormed out in front 39-26 after the first half and ended up with an 87-66 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Jonas Aidoo with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

ANDREW’S FREE ILLINOIS VS TENNESSEE PREDICTION

I’ll probably stick with Illinois here. You could make a case either way, though. The Illini are coming off a tough test versus Florida Atlantic, and they played well. In that win, Illinois managed a stellar 63.2 percent shooting fro the field and 40 percent (8-of-20) from 3-point land. The Illini have scored 76 or more points in each installment of this current five-game win streak, and 84 or more in four of them. If that offensive output continues, Illinois will be tough to topple.

As for Tennessee, they’re about to finish off a tough stretch of games against ranked teams (four in five outings). The win over George Mason was nice though, as the Vols posted a 43-26 rebounding advantage. Tennessee should play pretty well at home, but I don’t think they’ll quite make a cover if Illinois keeps up the scoring.
