Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss managed to go 10-14 over their first 24 outings of the season. The Rebels closed out the year on a rough 1-6 run however, falling to South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi State, Auburn, Texas A&M and Missouri in that time.

On Wednesday in tournament action versus South Carolina, the Rebels were up 30-29 going into the second half. Ole Miss hit a 37-32 run from there and took the victory 67-61. Amaree Abram led the team on 20 points and James White doubled on 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Tennessee Volunteers

Over on the Tennessee side, they were a solid 19-5 after 24 games this year. The Volunteers finished off the regular season with a tough 3-4 stretch though, losing to Missouri, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Auburn. The wins came versus Alabama, South Carolina and Arkansas.

Back on Saturday versus Auburn, Tennessee held a 34-30 halftime advantage. The Vols were outscored 49-36 the rest of the way however and lost 79-70. Leading the team in scoring was Santiago Vescovi with 21 points and five rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Ole Miss. Also probably not going near it. The Rebels posted a pretty solid win over South Carolina on Wednesday. Ole Miss is just 2-6 in their last eight games but they’ve generally been competitive in their losses. As for Tennessee, it’s been a rough 3-5 stretch over the last eight games, but to be fair the Volunteers have played some top-shelf national talent in that time. The good news is that Tennessee has hit 70 or more points in three straight. These teams last met way back on December 28 at the Pavilion in a 63-59 Volunteers win. Ole Miss actually had a 34-28 halftime lead in that one but couldn’t hang on. If they play well I think they can stay in range during the rematch.
