Texas A&M began the year on a nice 15-2 run. The only losses in that time were to Wisconsin and TCU. Since then it’s been a four-game losing streak for the Aggies. They’ve fallen to Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU and South Carolina in that time.
In the South Carolina loss, the Aggies were up 31-27 at halftime. Texas A&M hit a 47-32 deficit in the second half for a 74-63 defeat. Leading scorer Andre Gordon finished with 14 points, and Quenton Jackson added 12 points and five boards off the bench.
Over on the Tennessee side, their year began at 11-5. The Vols took losses to Villanova, Texas Tech, Alabama, LSU and Kentucky. After a win streak over Vanderbilt, LSU and Florida, Tennessee fell on Saturday to Texas.
Matched up against the Longhorns over the weekend, Tennessee had a tight 27-25 deficit at the break. The Volunteers hit a 26-25 run from there but came up short in a 52-51 loss. Zakai Zeigler put up 12 points with three rebounds to lead the team in the defeat.
The Vols are 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. The under is 4-1 in Tennessee’s last five at home.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 5-2 ATS in the last seven overall. The over is 5-1 in Texas A&M’s last six road games.
PICK: I’m going to try Tennessee here. The Volunteers had a rough game against Texas in their last matchup. Tennessee hit just 35.8 percent from the field, 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from 3-point range and 8-of-16 from the line. It was a flat effort from a team that’s usually much better at scoring. As for Texas A&M, they’ve been at 67 points or below in five of their last six outings, so this is looking like a lower-total matchup. Tennessee should be able to bounce back and cover.
