The Southeastern Louisiana Lions and the Texas A&M-CC Islanders meet Thursday in college basketball action from American Bank Center. SE Louisiana is currently 14-12 on the year and beat Houston Baptist in their last outing. As for Texas A&M-CC, they’re 16-9 so far and coming off an OT loss to Nicholls. Southeastern LA hit a messy 4-9 run through their first 13 outings this year. The Lions have lost just three games since then, however. Since falling to Houston Baptist, SE Louisiana has taken out McNeese State and Houston Baptist in their last pair.
In the rematch versus Houston Baptist back on Saturday, the Lions trailed 38-46 after one half. SE Louisiana hit a 51-38 surge from there in an 89-84 comeback win. Keon Clergeot led the tea on his 28 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Over on the Texas A&M-CC side, they managed a solid 15-4 run to start the year. The Islanders have gone just 1-5 since then, however. The losses during that stretch have come to Houston Baptist, NW State, New Orleans (twice) and Nicholls.
Matched up against Nicholls on Saturday, the Islanders couldn’t hang on to a two-point halftime lead and needed overtime to decide the game in an eventual 83-80 loss. Simeon Fryer was the leading scorer on 21 points, and Trevian Tennyson added 20 points.
The Islanders are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 2-10 ATS in the last 12 Thursday games. Texas A&M-CC is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six overall. SE Louisiana is 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas A&M-CC here. The Islanders haven’t been all that trustworthy lately, however. Their last win came January 27 versus SE Louisiana in an 86-71 outcome. Since then Texas A&M-CC has scored pretty well but they’ve still got four straight losses on hand. I like the Islanders to show some life here and bang out a cover, but it’s probably not one to play around with.
