The Abilene Christian Wildcats and the Texas A&M Aggies meet Friday in college basketball action from Reed Arena. Abilene took a loss in their season opener this week, falling by 14 points to Utah. As for Texas A&M, they posted an 18-point victory over North Florida in their first game of the year. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Abilene Christian had a good run last year, finishing 24-5 overall and 13-2 in the Southland Conference. The Wildcats beat Lamar and Nicholls on the way to the conference tournament title, then took out Texas in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament before a UCLA loss.

Abilene had trouble with Utah in their first outing of the 2021-22 season and held a 34-27 deficit at halftime. The Wildcats couldn’t get any closer than that and ended up losing 70-56. Immanuel Allen was the only double-digit scorer on the team with 13 points.

Over on the Texas A&M side, they faltered last season with an 8-10 overall record and a 2-8 mark in SEC play. The Aggies landed just one spot out of the basement in the conference standings and fell to Vanderbilt in the First Round of the SEC Tournament.

Texas A&M posted a 64-46 win over North Florida in their opener this week. The Aggies held the opposition to just 14 points in the second half during the victory. Leading scorer Henry Coleman posted 27 points with seven rebounds and one steal.

ACU is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 overall and 4-1 in the last five road games versus a team with a winning home record. The under is 4-0 in the Wildcats’ last four overall.

Meanwhile, the Aggies are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 0-6 ATS in their last six at home. Texas A&M is 0-4 ATS in their last four Friday games.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Texas A&M, but staying away. The Aggies’ win over North Florida wasn’t exactly inspiring, despite the great defensive effort in the second half. Texas A&M shot just 36.9 percent from the field with an ugly 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from 3-point range. The team also benefitted from 29 turnovers by North Florida.

As for Abilene, their first game came out flat, and I don’t think they’ll be able to push past the Texas A&M defense well enough to cover here.
