Houston Baptist opened up the year with a tough draw against Texas. The Huskies were down 43-27 at the break and didn’t get any closer in an eventual 92-48 blowout loss. Za-Ontay Boothman led the team with 12 points and two rebounds in the defeat.
In game two, things went better for Houston Baptist. The Huskies took on Barclay College, jumping out to a 59-22 lead at the break en route to a 122-44 victory. Tristan Moore was tops in scoring with 26 points and three rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to try Houston Baptist in this one. The Aggies have gotten into a habit of slow starts over their first three games of the season. Texas A&M led Texas A&M-CC by just four at the break in their last outing; the Aggies had a slim four-point lead in game one as well, and it took two overtimes to put away Abilene Christian in game two. Houston Baptist is going to need to get off to a quick start here, and I can see them hanging around if the Aggies go through another tepid run in the second half.
