Incarnate Word was 5-5 through 10 games this year, beating TX Lutheran, Our Lady of the Lake, Dartmouth, Grambling State and DCC. It’s been a 1-3 run since then with losses to Kansas State, FIU and Texas A&M-Commerce.
Matched up against Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, the Cardinals came back from a 43-38 halftime deficit to force overtime but still lost 82-74. Jonathan Cisse topped the team on 20 points with two rebounds in 44 minutes.
Over on the Texas A&M-CC side, they were 5-5 in their first 10 games, beating UTSA, Trinity TX, UTRGV, Alcorn State and TX Lutheran. Since then the Islanders are 3-1 with a lone loss to Oklahoma State in that stretch.
On Saturday versos Northwestern State, the Islanders were up 32-24 going into the second half. Texas A&M-CC kept the pace from there and won 65-59. Tops in scoring was Terrion Murdix with 19 points and nine rebounds.
PICK: I’m going to try Texas A&M-CC here. The Islanders are on a nice run right now at 4-2 through their last six games—the losses came to good Oklahoma State and Arizona teams. Texas A&M-CC has scored 65 or more in four of those six games, but to be fair three outings came against pretty small schools. Incarnate Word has scored 74 or more points in three straight games and should provide a nice challenge for the Islanders. This will be the first installment of a home-and-home pair (game two will be Saturday) and should be a good one.
