The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Texas State Bobcats meet Tuesday in Sun Belt Tournament college basketball action from Pensacola Bay Center. Old Dominion lost to Georgia Southern in their last game and fell to 7-24 this year. As for Texas State, they’re 14-17 following a win over Troy. Let’s get into our Old Dominion vs Texas State prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Old Dominion Monarchs

The Monarchs haven’t had much luck this year. After starting out 6-16 through 22 games, Old Dominion fell to James Madison, Southern Miss, Central Michigan, Louisiana, Georgia State and App State in the next six. Following a win over Coastal Carolina the Monarchs lost to App State and Georgia Southern.

In the game versus the Eagles back on Friday, the Monarchs came out of the first half with a 45-30 deficit. Old Dominion didn’t get any closer with a 47-45 run from there and fell 92-75. Chaunce Jenkins was the leading team scorer with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Texas State Bobcats

Over on the Texas State side, they were just 7-14 after their first 21 outings. The Bobcats are a much better 7-3 since then though, with wins over South Alabama, Southern Miss, App State, Ball State, Georgia State, LA-Monroe and Troy. The losses came versus South Alabama, Southern Miss and Georgia Southern.

Matched up against Troy in their Friday game, the Bobcats needed overtime to get the victory. Texas State scored 30 points in the first half, 41 in the second and 11 in the extra period for an 82-79 outcome. Davion Sykes was the leading team scorer with 30 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.

ANDREW’S FREE OLD DOMINION VS TEXAS STATE PREDICTION

I’ll stick with Texas State. The Bobcats knocked off a decent Troy team in their last outing, shooting 46 percent from the field with a 42-33 rebounding edge. Texas State had their fair share of blemishes in that one though: 21.4 percent from 3-point range, 63.6 percent from the line and 17 turnovers specifically. The Bobcats have scored 68 or more points in five straight games—a 3-2 stretch.

As for Old Dominion, they’ve been below 68 points in five of their last seven outings and have been giving up some pretty hefty points totals on defense. The Monarchs will likely hang around for a while in this one but I don’t see them covering.

Andrew's Free Pick: Texas State Bobcats -4.5
