Texas State vs Texas-Arlington 1/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Texas-Arlington Mavericks and the Texas State Bobcats meet Saturday in college basketball action from Strahan Coliseum. This game will be a rematch of Thursday’s game from College Park Center. UT-Arlington got off to a 3-7 start this year with wins over only Mary Hardin-Baylor, UCSB and Lamar. The Mavericks got better from there on a 5-1 run, then hit a three-game losing streak to UL Monroe, Arkansas State and Little Rock. 

In Thursday’s matchup versus Texas State, TX-Arlington managed 36 points in the first half and 34 more in the second on the way to a 70-58 win. Leading the scoring was Patrick Mwamba with 15 points, and Lazaro Rojas put up 12 points with two boards.

Over on the Texas State side, they lost two of their first three games this year then hit an eight-game win streak before two more losses to Houston and Troy. After wins over UL-Monroe, Louisiana and Little Rock, the Bobcats lost again to Arkansas State. 

Matched up against TX-Arlington on Thursday, Texas State scored just 21 points in the first half. the Bobcats managed 37 points from there but it wasn’t enough to catch up. Shelby Adams led the team on 16 points with four rebounds. 

Texas State is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and 8-22-1 ATS in their last 31 Saturday games. The Bobcats are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS loss. 

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. UT Arlington is 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. 

PICK: I’m going to try Texas State here. This game could go a lot of different ways though, so I’m probably not touching it. That said, the Bobcats have posted a couple of limp offensive efforts in their last pair with just 118 combined points. Prior to that however, Texas State had hit 69 or more in three straight. As for UT Arlington, they’ve scored pretty well lately themselves and will probably post another 70-ish points here as well. I think the Bobcats can hang in there well enough to bag a cover, though.
