Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview

Purdue has managed to put five games in the can so far this season. The Boilermakers opened up with an 82-51 blowout win over Evansville, then had a matchup versus Oakland on November 7. Purdue had a tense 35-35 tie at the break but came back in the second on a 52-42 run from there to power out the win 87-77. Leading the team in scoring was Braden Smith with 20 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Fletcher Loyer added 15 points with three boards and both CJ Cox and Oscar Cluff (nine boards) had 14 points apiece. In game three the Boilermakers had a tricky road matchup versus Alabama. Purdue held a slim 43-41 lead at the break but eventually won 87-80. Smith had 29 points with seven rebounds and four assists this time while Trey Kaufman-Renn added 19 points with 15 rebounds and five assists. Game four was finally another easy one for the Boilermakers, as they got past Akron 97-79 following a 52-39 advantage in the first half. Purdue’s Kaufman-Renn doubled on 17 points with 15 boards, as did Oscar Cluff on 14 points with 14 rebounds in 21 minutes.

In the Thursday matchup versus Memphis, Purdue opened up the game on a slim 36-35 first half. In the second the Boilermakers got it going on a 44-36 run from there and took the victory 80-71 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Fletcher Loyer with 20 points and four rebounds. CJ Cox added 18 points with four rebounds and Trey Kaufman-Renn doubled again on 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Braden Smith chipped in 11 assists, five points and three rebounds along the way.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Texas Tech side, they’ve got five games in the bag this year as well. The Raiders opened up with a 98-60 blowout win over Lindenwood on November 4, then took out Sam Houston 98-77 in game two. Texas Tech would take their first loss of the year on the road versus Illinois, but then bounced back with a win over Milwaukee 80-63 in the next outing.

On Thursday versus Wake Forest, the Red Raiders held a tight lead 35-34 by the end of the first half. After a wild run from there 49-49, Texas Tech held on for the win 84-83. Leading team scorer JT Toppin put up 21 points with nine rebounds and four assists in the winning effort.

Texas Tech vs Purdue Prediction

I’ll probably lean toward Purdue. On Thursday the Boilermakers shot very well (46.2 percent) from the field and hit nine of their 11 free throws. Purdue had a 35-32 edge on the boards, 20 team assists and a manageable 10 turnovers. The Boilermakers did get outscored 34-30 in the paint, however. Purdue has scored quite well this year—even with a couple of pretty slow halves mixed across five games. The Boilermakers have put up at least 80 points in every outing so far. If they can keep that trend going here, Purdue will be in great shape (and we’ll have a fun, offense-heavy shootout game to watch).

As for Texas Tech, they didn’t shoot spectacularly (41.2 percent) and had 14 turnovers while barely sneaking past a plucky Wake Forest team on Thursday. The Raiders did a good job on the boards 39-31 but got outscored in the paint 38-30. They’ll make an interesting opponent for Purdue on Friday.
