The Delaware State Hornets and the Texas Longhorns meet Friday in college basketball action from Moody Center. Here’s a Texas vs Delaware State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Texas vs Delaware State pick.
Delaware State Hornets Betting Preview
The Hornets’ season began with a couple of losses to Virginia Tech and Columbia. Delaware State managed wins in the next pair over Gwynedd Mercy and Cheyney, but since then they’ve fallen to Providence and Mount St. Mary’s before another win versus Wilkes-Barre.
Matched up against Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, the Hornets didn’t have too many issues. Delaware State hit a 57-24 run in the first half and a 54-19 stretch in the second for a 111-43 victory. Leading team scorers Kaseem Watson and Robert Smith posted 19 points each.
Texas Longhorns Betting Preview
Over on the Longhorns’ side, it’s been a stretch of five straight victories following their 80-72 opener loss to Ohio State. Texas has since taken out Houston Christian, Chicago State, MS Valley, Syracuse, and Saint Joseph’s.
Last Friday in their most recent outing, Texas had a slim 32-30 edge on Saint Joseph’s at the break. The Longhorns stayed strong in the second on a 35-28 run however, eventually winning 67-58. Tre Johnson was the team’s top scorer with 17 points and two boards.
Why the Texas Longhorns will win
- Texas has won each of its last 12 Friday games.
- Delaware State has lost 53 of its last 59 games against non-conference opponents.
- Texas has won the first half in each of its last 14 games against non-conference opponents at Moody Center.
Texas vs Delaware State Prediction
I’m going to stay with Texas, but it’s quite a hefty line. The Longhorns didn’t have a great first half in their win over Saint Joseph’s and eventually got out-rebounded 44-34 in addition to 12 turnovers. Texas shot fairly well (43.6 percent) however, holding the Hawks to just 31.8 percent on the other side. Still, it was the Longhorns’ lowest points total (67) of the season.
As for Delaware State, they’ve got three wins versus overmatched teams in the books so far this year. Otherwise, it’s been a series of four double-digit losses. The Hornets have scored 66 or fewer points in each of those defeats, so they likely won’t post a very high total on Friday. Texas should control this one wire to wire.
