Texas vs TCU 2/23/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas Longhorns meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Frank Erwin Center. TCU is coming off a Monday game versus West Virginia. In that one the Frogs won by 10 points. As for Texas, they’re sitting at 19-8 overall this year and lost to Texas Tech in their last outing. TCU hit a nice 10-1 run over their first 11 games this year but haven’t been able to win more than two consecutive games since then. The Frogs hit a 1-4 run to start February, losing to Kansas State, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Baylor in that time. 

In Monday’s matchup versus West Virginia, TCU posted a 43-42 advantage by halftime. The Frogs outscored the Mountaineers 34-25 from there in a 77-67 win. Tops in scoring was Emanuel Miller with 18 points and eight rebounds. 

Over on the Texas side, their year began at 12-2 but the conference schedule has proven to be tricky. The Longhorns are 6-3 in their last nine games, though. They’ve fallen to Texas Tech, Baylor and Texas Tech again in that time. 

Matched up against Texas Tech in the Saturday rematch, the Longhorns went into the break tied at 28-28. Texas was outscored 27-33 from there in a 61-55 loss. Leading the team in scoring was Andrew Jones with 20 points and two boards. 

Texas is 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and the under is 20-8 in their last 28 Wednesday games. The under is 4-1 in the Longhorns’ last five at home. 

Meanwhile, the Frogs are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 12-5-3 ATS in their last 20 overall. The over is 7-2 in TCU’s last nine overall. 

PICK: I’m going to try Texas in this one. The Longhorns have been a mixed bag on the scoreboard during these Big 12 matchups; they’ve hit 65 or fewer in seven of the last 10 outings. That said, Texas did well the last time these teams met up back on January 25. In that one, the Longhorns pulled off a 73-50 road victory. 

As for TCU, they’ve struggled over the last five games or so but should be able to post a decent performance in this rematch. Still, I like Texas on a home cover.
