The UNC Greensboro Spartans and the Texas Longhorns meet Friday in college basketball action from Moody Center. UNC Greensboro is 9-3 on the year and coming off a blowout win over Virginia-Lynchburg last week. As for Texas, they’ve gone 9-2 thus far. The Longhorns beat Texas A&M-CC last Friday. UNC Greensboro Spartans
The Spartans took a lone loss to Vanderbilt during an 8-1 run over their first nine outings this year. The wins in that time came versus North Carolina A&T, Arkansas, Kansas City, Delaware, UIC, William Peace, Eastern Kentucky and Elon. The next two were both losses however, as UNCG fell to Marshall and High Point.
Last Thursday versus Virginia-Lynchburg, the Spartans were able to get back into the win column in a big way. UNC Greensboro was up 66-24 by the break and then hit a 69-33 second-half run in a 135-57 blowout victory. Tops in scoring was Donovan Atwell with 19 points and five rebounds.
Texas Longhorns
Over on the Texas side, they’ve only got two losses so far this year: 81-71 versus UConn and 86-65 against Marquette. Otherwise the Longhorns have taken out Incarnate Word, Delaware State, Rice, Louisville, Wyoming, Texas State, Houston Christian, LSU and Texas A&M-CC in their first 11 outings.
In the Texas A&M-CC matchup last Friday, the Longhorns didn’t have a ton of issues. Texas was up 35-24 going into the second half, then scored another 36 points from there in a 71-55 victory. Max Abmas was the team’s top contributor with 17 points, five assists and two rebounds.

I’ll stick with Texas here. The Longhorns are coming off a pretty solid effort versus Texas A&M-CC, shooting 48.1 percent from the field with 40 rebounds and 16 team assists. That makes 71 or more points in all but one game so far this season.
As for UNC Greensboro, they posted a combined 128 points in their two recent losses to Marshall and High Point. The Spartans will certainly need a better offensive effort in this one, which will be pretty tricky. UNCG may hang around for a while initially, but I like Texas to power out the cover in the end.
