The Charleston Cougars and the Towson Tigers meet in college basketball action from the SECU Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Charleston Cougars will look to build on an 89-61 win over Hampton last time out. Dalton Bolon leads the Cougars in scoring with 12.7 PPG and Ryan Larson has 11.1 PPG also posting a team-high 3.8 APG to lead the Cougars in the assist department while Reyne Smith has 11.3 PPG. Pat Robinson III has 10.6 PPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for the Cougars this year while Babacar Faye also leads Charleston on the glass with 5.6 RPG so far this season. As a team, Charleston is averaging 80.8 PPG on 44.5% shooting from the field, 34.1% from three and 74.2% from the foul line this season.
The Towson Tigers will try to bounce back from a 69-59 loss to Bryant in their last game. Nicolas Timberlake leads the Tigers in scoring with 15.7 PPG along with 4.1 RPG while Cameron Holden has 15.2 PPG with 6.4 RPG and a team-high 4.6 APG to lead the Tigers in assists and Charles Thompson has 13 PPG with a team-high 7.5 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Towson this season as the Tigers’ top rebounder as well. As a team, Towson is averaging 69 PPG on 44% shooting from the field, 32.1% from three and 69.4% from the foul line this season.
Charleston is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games and 15-5 ATS in their last 20 games overall while the under is 9-1 in their last 10 games following a win. Towson is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
I get the case to be made for either side in this game, but I’m backing the over here. These are two teams loaded with talent, and while Towson’s had some scoring issues in their last couple of games, I think a fast paced game against a stacked Charleston team will force Towson to push the pace a bit and open up to a more offensive style. I like the over a lot here.
