The Appalachian State Mountaineers and the Troy Trojans meet Saturday in college basketball action from Trojan Arena. Appalachian State is 8-8 on the year so far. The Mountaineers are coming off a win over South Alabama. As for Troy, they’re currently 11-5 and took out Coastal Carolina in their last outing. Appalachian State managed a 5-5 record over their first 10 games. a 1-3 stretch with losses to Duke, North Carolina and Louisiana came next, then a win over LA-Monroe. On Thursday in their last outing the Mountaineers were able to beat South Alabama.
In the South Alabama game, App State scored 39 points in the first half and 33 more from there in a 72-64 victory. CJ Huntley led the team on his 20 points and six rebounds.
Over on the Trojans’ side, they went 6-4 over their first 10 with losses to Butler, North Dakota, Florida and Southeastern LA. Troy is 5-1 in their last six with victories versus Alabama A&M, AR Baptist, Mercer, Texas State and Coastal Carolina.
In the matchup versus the Chanticleers on Thursday, the Trojans were down 29-28 at halftime. Troy surged with a 41-30 advantage from there in a 69-59 win. Both Efe Odigie and Jakevan Leftridge notched 13 points apiece, combining for 15 rebounds.
The Trojans are 13-27-1 ATS in their last 41 after an ATS win and 21-50-2 ATS in their last 73 at home versus a team with a losing road record. The under is 5-2 in Troy’s last seven at home.
Meanwhile, the Mountaineers are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The over is 4-1 in App State’s last five after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Troy. The Trojans have been on a pretty good run over their last nine games, going 7-2 in that time and hitting 68 or more points in seven of those games as well. Troy was pretty spotty in the TX-Arlington game but they bounced back well versus Coastal. App State has hit 72 or more in each of their last two games and should provide a good challenge. This looks like it’ll be a fun game to watch.
