The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Troy Trojans meet in college basketball action from the Trojan Arena on Friday night.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will look to build on a 65-55 win over Georgia Southern last time out. Devante’ Jones leads the Chanticleers in scoring with 20.5 PPG along with 6.9 RPG and 3.3 APG while Deanthony Tipler has 15.3 PPG and Tyrik Dixon has 11.2 PPG on the year. Eliel Mostafa also has 10.7 PPG with a team-high 8.5 RPG to make up the group of double-digit scorers for Coastal Carolina while also leading the Chanticleers on the glass as well on the year. As a team, Coastal Carolina is averaging 80.9 PPG on 46.8% shooting from the field, 37.6% from 3-point range and 71.7% from the foul line while allowing 67 PPG on 39.2% shooting from the field, and 32.3% from 3-point range this season.
The Troy Trojans will be out to get out of the basement of the Sun Belt after a 65-53 loss to Georgia State last time out. Nick Stampley leads Troy in scoring with 12.3 PPG along with 6.9 RPG while Zay Williams has 10.7 PPG and a team-high 8.4 RPG to lead the Trojans on the glass. Kam Woods has 10.5 PPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Troy up to this point in the season while Duke Miles has 7.1 PPG and a team-high 3 APG as well on the year for the Trojans. As a team, Troy is averaging 64.2 PPG on 40% shooting from the field, 27.8% from 3-point range and 70.7% from the foul line while allowing 67.5 PPG on 42.8% shooting from the field and 35.7% from behind the arc this season.
Coastal Carolina is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games following a win while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Troy is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 games following a loss. The underdog is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I get why Coastal would be favored on the road as the Chanticleers have a really good offense that can burn even the best of the best in the Sun Belt. However, they’re also just 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS on the road this season and even if you take away their three unlined games, the Trojans are still 4-2 ATS and SU at home this season. The bottom line here is win or lose, Troy plays their best at home and if that holds true I think we have a good shot at a Troy cover here so I’ll take a shot with Troy and the points at home here.
