The Mercer Bears and the Troy Trojans meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Trojan Arena. Mercer is 6-6 overall this year. The Bears beat Morehead State in their last game. As for Troy, they’re 8-4 on the season and coming off a win over Southeastern LA. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Mercer has managed wins over Milligan, Winthrop, Robert Morris, Fairfield, Middle GA State and Morehead State this year. The losses have come to East Carolina, Georgia State, Florida State, Towson, Kennesaw State and FGCU.

Back on Saturday versus Morehead State, Mercer took a 41-25 lead into the locker room. The Bears hit a 38-27 run from there and won 79-52. Leading scorer Jalyn McCreary put up 21 points with six boards.

Over on the Troy side, they won their first four games before a loss to St. Thomas MN. The Trojans would beat Montana and SUNO before losses to Arkansas, SIUE and San Diego State. Troy beat Tennessee Tech and Southeastern LA in their last pair.

In the weekend matchup versus Southeastern LA, the Trojans were tied up at 37-37 by halftime. Troy hit a 40-34 run in the second half and took the win 77-71. Keiffer Punter was tops in scoring with 19 points.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Troy. The Trojans got off to something of a slow start versus a mediocre Southeastern LA team in their last matchup, but to Troy’s credit they were able to pull off the six-point win. The Trojans have been scoring great this year so far; they’ve hit 72 or more points in 10 of 12 games. As for Mercer, they’ve been a mixed bag depending on the matchup so far this year. That said, the Bears have played well in most of their games. I don’t think they’ll keep up with Troy, though.
