The Texas State Bobcats will travel to Trojan Arena to take on the Troy Trojans this Friday night in College Basketball action.

The Texas State Bobcats won their 8th straight game and improved to 20-6 on the season after defeating the South Alabama Jaguars, 55-52, this past Wednesday. Texas State trailed by a 47-43 margin with just 3:52 left in regulation, however, the Bobcats were solid on the offensive end down the stretch and took the lead for good after a Caleb Asberry three-pointer gave the Bobcats a 53-50 lead with :25 seconds left in regulation. Texas State shot 36.1% from the field & 42.9% from beyond the arc while allowing South Alabama to shoot 39.2% from the field & 30.4% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Bobcats was Isiah Small who had 8 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assist, & 1 steal.

On the season, Texas State is averaging 70.8 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Bobcats are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 37.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Texas State has been led by Caleb Asberry (13.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 spg), Mason Harrell (11.4 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.0 apg), Isiah Small (11.2 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.2 spg), & Shelby Adams (9.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.2 spg).

Defensively, Texas State is holding their opponents to an average of 62.6 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Bobcats have a rebound margin of 3.8 and a turnover margin of 2.3.

The Troy Trojans improved to 19-9 on the season after defeating the UT Arlington Mavericks, 59-53, this past Wednesday. Troy was outstanding on the defensive end against UT Arlington and was able to pull away after a 10-0 Trojans run gave Troy a 55-48 lead with :55 seconds left in regulation. Troy shot 36.5% from the field & 38.5% from beyond the arc while allowing UT Arlington to just 37.3% shooting from the field & 37.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Trojans was Zay Williams who had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, & 1 block.

On the season, Troy is averaging 69.9 ppg on 42.8% shooting from the field. The Trojans are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 32.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Troy has been led by Efe Odigie (11.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.2 apg), Duke Deen (9.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.0 spg), Duke Miles (8.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.9 apg, 2.5 spg), & Zay Williams (8.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.0 apg). Duke Miles has missed the past three weeks due injury and is most likely not going to be available for this matchup.

Defensively, Troy is holding their opponents to an average of 65.1 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Trojans have a rebound margin of 3.8 and a turnover margin of -0.3.

The Bobcats are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall & 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Trojans are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 Friday games and 5-3 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

Texas State has been playing outstanding over the last month, led by a defense that ranks 27th in scoring defense, however, this is a team that is just 6-5 on the road this season and lost to Troy by a 78-63 margin at home in late December. Troy has also been led by their defense, which ranks t-61st in scoring defense & 52nd in defensive FG%, and as I expect the Trojans defense to give a Texas State team has topped 63 points just once in their last five road games trouble, I’m taking Troy in this pick-em.
