Troy vs Texas State Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/4/23

The Texas State Bobcats and the Troy Trojans meet Saturday in college basketball action from Trojan Arena. Texas State is fresh off a Thursday matchup versus Louisiana. In that one the Bobcats lost by 19 points. As for Troy, they took on Southern Miss in their Thursday game. The Trojans would go on to fall by nine points. Texas State Bobcats 

Texas State managed a .500 run through 16 games this year, going 8-8 overall. The Bobcats posted a 3-4 stretch over the next seven outings, taking losses to LA-Monroe, Marshall, Louisiana and Southern Miss in that time. 

On Thursday versus Louisiana, the Bobcats took a 38-34 deficit into the locker room. Texas State fell further behind on a 44-29 second-half run in an 82-63 loss. Nighael Ceaser was the leading team scorer with 12 points. 

Troy Trojans

Over on the Troy side, they were slightly better through 16 games at 10-6 overall. The Trojans then also hit a 3-4 stretch in their next seven. The losses came to Appalachian State, James Madison, Louisiana and South Alabama. 

Matched up against Southern Miss on Thursday, the Trojans were down 30-23 going into the second half. Troy didn’t get any closer with a 44-42 deficit from there and lost 74-65. Zay Williams topped the team on 18 points and nine rebounds. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll probably lean toward Troy. Also probably not touching it; there’s not a lot to get excited about here since both teams are struggling. That said, we should have a pretty competitive matchup in store. Troy managed to eke out a 55-52 win the last time these teams met back on December 31 at Strahan Coliseum. The Trojans are just 4-5 since then however and haven’t been scoring terribly well. Texas State is in something of the same boat; they’re just 1-5 in the last six. I like this one to be close with Troy eventually eking out a cover.
