Drexel didn’t have too many issues with Old Dominion in their opener this year. The Dragons scored 41 second-half points in a 71-59 win. Game two was much trickier for Drexel, however; they ended up losing to Penn 64-59.
Back on Friday versus Arcadia, the Dragons got back into the win column with a blowout result. Drexel scored 39 points in the first half and 46 more from there in an 85-45 win. Lamar Oden Jr. (13 points; 10 boards) and Garfield Turner (10 points; 10 rebounds) both doubled up.
Over on the TX-Arlington side, they kicked off their season with a 77-66 loss to Oklahoma State. The Mavericks got their first victory of the 2022-23 season versus Southwestern TX 103-61, and beat Hardin-Simmons 100-59.
In game four versus Nevada, TX-Arlington had a rough first half and trailed 26-18 at the break. The Mavericks were outpaced 36-25 from there and lost 62-43. Texas-Arlington’s Shemar Wilson notched six points and 14 rebounds in the loss.
PICK: I’m going to try Drexel in this one. Probably staying away from it, though. This ought to be a decent matchup if both teams are on point. In any case, Drexel has scored pretty well in their first two wins this year with 71 or more in each. TX-Arlington has a couple of 100-plus points outings in the books and a couple of duds as well. I like this matchup to finish on the higher-scoring side with Drexel pulling away for a late cover.
