Nevada’s first game this year was against Utah Tech. The Wolf Pack managed to keep the Trailblazers at bay and won 84-71. In game two, Nevada took on Grand Canyon and managed a 59-46 victory.
In Tuesday’s matchup against William Jessup, the Wolf Pack didn’t have much trouble. Nevada was up 42-18 by halftime and scored 56 more points from there in a 98-54 win. Jarod Lucas scored 19 points, and Kenan Blackshear tripled up on 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Over on the Texas Arlington side, they had a tricky matchup versus Oklahoma State in their first game this year and ended up losing 77-66. The Mavericks were able to bounce back in game two with a 103-61 blowout win over Southwestern TX, however.
On Tuesday in game three versus Hardin-Simmons, the Mavericks scored 50 points in the first and second halves for a 100-59 victory. Tops in scoring were Marion Humphrey and Brandon Walker, each with 17 points and a combined 13 rebounds.
PICK: I’m probably going to take Nevada in this one. We should have a pretty good matchup here, though. The Wolf Pack haven’t really been properly tested so far this year, unless you count the slow first half (24 points) versus Grand Canyon in their second game. Outside of that Nevada has been scoring pretty well against overmatched teams. This one should be closer, and I still think the Wolf Pack will pull off the cover.
