In that one the Texans lost by three points. As for TX-Arlington, they played Sam Houston State in their Saturday game. The Mavericks ended up winning that one by 12 points. Tarleton State Texans

Tarleton State opened up the season at .500, going 8-8 over their first 16 games. After that the Texans hit a 4-2 run with wins over Chicago State, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech and Grand Canyon mixed with losses to Seattle and Cal Baptist.

On Saturday versus UTRGV, the Texans were down 36-24 going into the second half. Tarleton State made a game of it on a 41-32 run from there but still lost 68-65. Shamir Bogues was the leading scorer on 19 points and five boards.

Texas-Arlington Mavericks

Over on the Texas-Arlington side, they posted a rough 5-11 run through their first 16 outings this year. The Mavericks would then hit a 2-4 run with losses to Seattle, Grand Canyon, Abilene Christian and Cal Baptist alongside wins over New Mexico State and UTRGV.

Matched up against Sam Houston State on Saturday, the Mavericks jumped out to a 46-28 halftime lead. TX-Arlington posted 24 more points in the second and held on for the 70-58 victory. Chendall Weaver was tops on 21 points and four assists.

I’ll probably take a stab on Texas-Arlington here. We should have a competitive matchup regardless, though. The Mavericks are coming off a nice win over a pretty good Sam Houston State team, and they’ve scored 66 or more points in five straight outings. The last time these teams met up was back on December 29 in a 70-63 Texans win from Wisdom Gymnasium. If TX-Arlington can get off to a good start in this one (they managed only 16 first-half points last time) I think they’ll be in line for a cover/win.
