UAB vs Middle Tennessee 2/5/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the UAB Blazers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Bartow Arena. Middle Tennessee is sitting at 14-6 this year and coming off a win over Western Kentucky. As for UAB, they’re currently 17-5 on the season. The Blazers lost to Marshall in their last game. Middle Tennessee managed a 9-6 run to start the year, falling to Stephen F. Austin, Murray State, Ole Miss, Chattanooga, Rice and North Texas. Since then it’s been wins over FAU, FIU, Southern Miss, Marshall and Western Kentucky. 

In the Western Kentucky matchup, the Raiders posted a 42-37 advantage in the first half and a 51-48 run from there in a 93-85 victory. Tops in scoring was Josh Jefferson with 31 points. Donovan Sims added 22 points with six boards and six assists. 

Over on the UAB side, they’ve been a very consistent team this year and have yet to lose consecutive games. After a four-game win streak over FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky the Blazers lost their last outing to Marshall. 

Matched up against Marshall last weekend, the Blazers were down 30-41 at the break. UAB went on a 51-43 run from there but it wasn’t enough in an 84-81 loss. Leading scorer Jordan Walker put up 23 points, five rebounds and eight assists in the defeat. 

The Blazers are 23-9 ATS in their last 32 at home and 6-1 ATS in their las seven after an ATS loss. UAB is 6-0 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are 5-1 ATS in the last six Saturday games and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four road games. Middle Tennessee is 19-7-3 ATS in their last 29 overall. 

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Middle Tennessee here. Probably staying away, though; this one should be a competitive game. In any case, the Raiders have scored well over this five-game win streak. They’ve hit 70 or more points in four of those games and kept the opposition to 60 points or fewer in three of them. 

UAB isn’t going to give it up easily, though. The Blazers have scored 68 or more points in 10 straight games and shouldn’t have a problem putting up points against the Raiders. I like a high-scoring matchup in this one; it should be a fun game to watch.
