The Morehead State Eagles and the UAB Blazers meet Sunday in NIT college basketball action from Bartow Arena. Morehead State is 22-11 on the year and fresh off a tournament win over Clemson. Morehead State Eagles
Morehead State got out of the regular season with a 21-10 overall record. The Eagles ended on a nice run, beating SEMO, Tennessee State, Lindenwood, Eastern Illinois and TN-Martin in succession. Morehead State was then upset by SEMO in the Ohio Valley Tournament.
Back on Wednesday versus Clemson, Morehead State posted a 34-32 deficit going into the second half. The Eagles were able to fight back from there and won the game 68-64. Mark Freeman was the team’s leading scorer on 19 points and four assists.
UAB Blazers
Over on the UAB side, they were 23-8 by the end of the regular season. The Blazers ended the year on a six-game win streak, then took out Rice 87-60 and North Texas 76-69 in the Conference USA Tournament. Game three was a loss 78-56 to UAB, however.
Matched up against Southern Miss back on Tuesday, the Blazers went into the second half up 41-38. UAB stormed to the finish on a 47-22 run and got the win 88-60. KJ Buffen topped the team with his 26 points and 12 rebounds in 33 minutes.

I’m going to take a stab on Morehead State. We should have a good matchup on our hands regardless, though. The Eagles posted a nice win over a talented Clemson team on Wednesday despite shooting a tepid 35 percent from the field. Morehead State made up for it with 15-of-16 (93.8 percent) from the line, 40 rebounds and just eight turnovers. The Eagles have scored 68 or more options in five of their last six games. As for UAB, they’re scoring great these days themselves with 70 or more points in 13 of their last 14 outings. This one should end up as a high total if both teams play well. It’ll be an entertaining matchup to watch.
