UAB vs Southern 12/18/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern University Jaguars and the UAB Blazers meet Sunday in college basketball action from Bartow Arena. Southern U is currently 4-7 on the year. The Jaguars lost to Youngstown State in their last game. As for UAB, they’re 8-2 and fresh off a win over South Carolina. Southern U has managed wins over California, Loyola MD, Champion Christian and LSU-Alexandria. The losses have come to UNLV, Arizona, Saint Mary’s, Omaha, LA Tech, Xavier and Youngstown State. 

Southern U jumped out to a 42-35 edge on Youngstown State in the Friday matchup. The Jaguars couldn’t hold it and were outscored 50-39 from there in an 85-81 loss. PJ Byrd managed to double up with 12 assists and 16 points. 

Over on the UAB side, they went a nice 7-1 over their first eight games with a lone loss to Toledo on November 11. The Blazers took another loss to West Virginia last weekend before a Wednesday win over South Carolina.

Matched up against South Carolina in their last outing, the Blazers were up 42-28 by halftime. UAB kept it rolling in the second half and won 84-70. KJ Buffen topped the team on 25 points with eight rebounds in the victory. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with UAB in this one. The Blazers played well against South Carolina in their last outing, shooting 44.8 percent from the floor with 41 total rebounds and 16 assists. UAB is scoring very well this year; they’ve hit 70 or more points in every game. As for Southern U, they’ve shown some flashes here and there but the Jaguars have been uneven at best this year. If Southern plays well I think they’ll hang around for most of the game but it’s probably still UAB’s cover.
