UC Irvine vs Cal Poly Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/9/23

The Cal Poly Mustangs and the UC Irvine Anteaters meet Thursday in college basketball action from Bren Events Center. Cal Poly is 7-17 so far this year. The Mustangs lost to Hawaii in their last game. As for UC Irvine, they’re 15-8 following a Saturday loss to Long Beach State. Cal Poly Mustangs

The Mustangs were a mixed bag early in the season, going 7-8 through 15 games. Cal Poly has posted losses to UCSB, Long Beach State, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Davis, Long Beach State again, CSUF, UCSB again and Hawaii since then. 

Back on Saturday versus Hawaii, the Mustangs were down 36-25 going into the second half. Cal Poly was outscored 33-31 from there and lost 69-56. Tops in scoring was Alimamy Koroma with 17 points and three rebounds. 

UC Irvine Anteaters 

Over on the UC Irvine side, they managed an 11-5 record though their first 16 outing this year. The Anteaters are 4-3 in the last seven with wins over CSU Northridge, Hawaii, CSU Northridge and UC San Diego during that time. 

In the Saturday matchup versus Long Beach State, the Anteaters scored 36 points in the first half, 44 in the second and eight in overtime on the way to a 93-88 loss. Leading the way was Dawson Baker with 23 points and five rebounds. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll probably go with UC Irvine in this one. The Anteaters are coming off a tough loss to Long Beach State, but overall they haven’t been playing too badly over the last several games. UC Irvine has scored 76 or more points in four of their last five outings as well. As for Cal Poly, they’ve scored 64 or fewer points in 10 of the 11 games during this current losing streak. UC Irvine should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this one, and I like a solid cover here.
