The Robert Morris Colonials and the UCF Knights meet in college basketball action from Addition Financial Arena on Wednesday night.

The Robert Morris Colonials come into the 2021-22 season looking to rebound from a rough debut season in the Horizon League, finishing 4-15 overall including 3-12 in Horizon League conference play to finish in last. The Colonials were erased from the Horizon League tournament in the first round by Detroit Mercy, ending their season. The Colonials retooled their roster with a few players like AJ Bramah who led the Colonials in scoring last year, gone from the program. Michael Green had 16 PPG, 3.7 RPG and 3.7 APG with Bryant while Jaron Williams comes in from UT-Martin after putting up 10.3 PPG and 3.3 RPG for the Skyhawks last season. Rasheem Dunn brings some power 6 conference flair with 9.4 PPG, 2.9 RPG and 4 APG with St. John’s last season while Kahliel Spear had 9.9 PPG and 5.2 RPG as a member of the Colonials last season. It’s a steep climb back into the upper echelon of the Horizon League, but don’t be surprised if Bobby Mo shocks some teams this season.

The UCF Knights come into this year bringing lots of optimism after finishing 2020-21 with a record of 11-12, including 8-10 in AAC conference play to finish with the 6th-seed in the AAC conference tournament. The Knights took out East Carolina in the first round before falling to Memphis in the quarterfinals, ending their season. The Knights bring back a ton of talent from last year’s team, including three double-digit scorers in Darius Perry (14.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 3.4 APG), Darin Green (11.3 PPG, 2.9 RPG) and Brandon Mahan (12.3 PPG, 5 RPG) while also getting C.J. Walker back as well (7 PPG, 5 RPG). The Knights also filled a massive need by bringing in former UNLV big man Cheikh Mbacke Diong (8.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 1.2 SPG, 1 BPG) via the transfer portal. Johnny Dawkins has not had a ton of success in terms of tournament bids at UCF, but this year’s edition of the Knights gives him a good shot to reach the big dance, one way or another.

Robert Morris is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. UCF is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 41-20-1 ATS in their last 62 games as a favorite.

This feels like a ton of points to be giving up with UCF here, but the Colonials weren’t great out of conference last season and they were even worse on the road to finish the season. UCF was fantastic out of conference last year with wins over Auburn and Florida State and they’ve kept the majority of that roster that helped with those victories and the same roster that suffocated their opposition last season. It’s a hefty number like I said, but I expect UCF to win this one by 20+. Give me UCF here.
