MS Valley State Delta Devils

Mississippi Valley State has had a couple of tough matchups on the slate so far this year. First came the opener versus LSU. The Devils were drilled 56-29 in the first half and limped to a 106-60 blowout road loss, shooting 38.2 percent along the way. Leading the team in scoring was Rayquan Brown with 17 points and three rebounds.

Game two versus Oklahoma didn’t turn out much better. MS Valley State was once again down big at the half—this time 50-23. After just 20 more points in the second the Devils had an 82-43 loss. Brown was the only player in double-figures, notching 14 points and seven rebounds in 37 minutes of work.

UConn Huskies

Over on the Huskies’ side, they’ve had a couple of fairly easy matchups on their schedule this year so far. UConn took out Northern Arizona in their opener, shooting 56.1 percent from the field and collecting 50 rebounds in a 95-52 blowout win. Alex Karaban was the team’s top scorer with his 22 points and seven boards.

Back on Saturday versus Stonehill, UConn notched another blowout victory. The Huskies were up 52-30 by the break, then posted another 55 points in the second for a 107-67 result. Tristen Newton topped the team this time with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Stephon Castle added 17 points with eight rebounds as well.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to stay with UConn, but the line's way too thick to mess with. This one’s bound to be another blowout win for the Huskies, and there’s no realistic way the Devils will even get close. UConn is coming off another nice all-around performance versus Stonehill, notching 53.5 percent shooting from the field, 91.3 percent (21-of-23) from the line, 24 assists and 42 rebounds. We can expect similar numbers in this one if all goes according to plan.

As for MS Valley State, they’re coming off a rough shooting performance versus Oklahoma (32.1 percent), and they got out-rebounded in that one 51-23. We may see some decent numbers in garbage time here, but the Delta Devils won’t hang around for long.
