The Texas Longhorns and the UConn Huskies meet Friday in college basketball action from XL Center in Hartford. Here’s a UConn vs Texas prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best UConn vs Texas pick.
Texas Longhorns Betting Preview
The Longhorns have a few blemishes on the schedule this year but overall they’re not playing too badly. Texas lost to Duke in their opener, then beat Lafayette, Fairleigh Dickinson, Kansas City and Rider. Since then the Longhorns are 3-2 in their last five outings. The losses in that time were versus Arizona State and Virginia. Texas beat Chaminade, NC State and Southern otherwise on the way to a 7-3 overall record across their first 10 outings this year.
In the Southern matchup on Monday, the Longhorns were up 46-27 by the break. Texas cruised on a 49-42 second half and took the easy win 95-69. Matas Vokietaitis put up 28 points with six boards to lead the team, and Jordan Pope added 18 points with two rebounds. Simeon Wilcher chipped in 14 points with two rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes during the winning effort for the Longhorns as well.
UConn Huskies Betting Preview
Over on the UConn side, they opened the year on a nice run. The first four games were wins over New Haven, UMass Lowell, Columbia and BYU, then came a four-point loss to Arizona. The Huskies bounced back in the next four with wins over Bryant, Illinois, Kansas and East Texas A&M. That would give the Huskies a solid 8-1 record over their first nine games of the season.
Matched up against Florida on Tuesday, UConn went into the second half with a 39-32 edge. The Huskies were outscored 41-38 the rest of the way but held on for the win 77-73. Leading the scoring was Solo Ball with 19 points, two assists and one rebound. Alex Karaban added 13 points with two rebounds and Tarris Reed had 12 points with five boards and two assists.

UConn vs Texas Prediction
I’ll probably stick with UConn here. The Huskies were out-rebounded 36-23 by Florida in their latest win and missed a few free throws but other than that it was a solid performance at the Garden. UConn hit 50 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (8-of-18) from outside along with 18 assists and just eight turnovers. That gives the Huskies 72 or more points in four of their last five games (all five were wins).
As for Texas, they didn’t have too many issues with Southern in their last game. Texas shot 56.9 percent from the field and 29-of-32 (90.6 percent) from the line in that one, alongside a 34-24 rebounding advantage and 17 team assists. The 13 turnovers were just about the only minor area of complaint in the victory. The Longhorns have a nice 69 or more points in all but one game this year (60 in the opener loss to Duke), so we should have a decent total here.
