The George Washington Colonials and the UMass Minutemen meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Mullins Center. George Washington is 8-13 so far this year. The Colonials lost to Davidson in their last outing. As for UMass, they’re sitting at 10-11 and coming off a win over Rhode Island. George Washington stumbled to a 4-10 start this year, but things have gotten better over the last seven games. The Colonials are 4-3 in that time with wins over George Mason, Rhode Island, Fordham and La Salle mixed with losses to St. Joseph’s, Saint Louis and Davidson.

Matched up against Davidson on Saturday, the Colonials had a 42-34 lead by halftime. George Washington was outscored 31-44 in the second in a 78-73 defeat. Leading scorer James Bishop finished with 26 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Over on the UMass side, they started the year at 7-5 overall. The Minutemen were inactive in late December and came back to a four-game losing streak. They’re 3-2 since then with wins over Saint Louis, La Salle and Rhode Island.

In the Rams game on Saturday, the Minutemen managed 32 points in the first half and 46 more in the second on the way to a solid 78-67 victory. TJ Weeks was the leading scorer on 30 points, and CJ Kelly doubled with 12 points and 11 boards.

The Minutemen are 26-10-1 ATS in their last 37 at home and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games. The over is 14-4 in UMass’ last 18 overall.
Meanwhile, the Colonials are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games. George Washington is 5-0 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on UMass here. Probably staying away from this one, though; a lot of different things could happen. That said, UMass has hit some decent points totals lately with 68 or more in four of their last six outings. I like this matchup to be competitive and we may even see a pretty high points total. I think the Minutemen can stick out a cover, but it’ll be close most of the way regardless.
