Princeton opened up their season versus Hofstra last Monday. The Tigers were up 42-38 by halftime but gave the lead away in the second in an 83-77 defeat. Tosan Evbuomwan led the team with 22 points and seven rebounds.
In game two, the Tigers had another close affair. Princeton was down 46-26 by halftime but rallied in the second half for a 74-73 loss. Keeshawn Kellman topped the scoring on 20 points and five rebounds.
Over on the UMBC side, their first game against Tulane didn’t go so well. The Retrievers managed 32 points in the first half and 35 more from there in an 89-67 defeat. Colton Lawrence topped the team with 14 points, and Tra’Von Fagan added 12 points.
The Retrievers managed to get into the win column in game two against Penn State York. UMBC got off to a 40-24 edge by the break and cruised to a 92-65 win. Yaw-Obeng-Mensah led the team on 19 points with 10 boards.
PICK: I’m probably going to stay with Princeton. Sure, the Tigers have a couple of losses in the books already but they should match up much better with UMBC. Princeton had a great second half against Navy in their last outing and eventually shot 53.6 percent from the field. The Tigers turned in 34 rebounds and 11 team assists as well. UMBC is riding high off their big win versus an overmatched opponent; this matchup should be much more comparable.
