The College of Charleston Cougars and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Trask Coliseum. Here’s a UNC Wilmington vs Charleston prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best UNC Wilmington vs Charleston pick.

College of Charleston Cougars Betting Preview

Charleston has been a very steady team so far this year. They’ve only got a couple of spotty runs in the books and haven’t lost consecutive games yet. The Cougars won four of their first six games, falling to only Liberty and Rhode Island during that time. Next came wins over Northern Kentucky, Tusculum, Saint Joseph’s and Wofford ahead of a loss to Oregon State. A 7-2 run came next with losses to Monmouth and UNC Wilmington among wins over Loyola Chicago, Charlotte, Hampton, Towson, Hofstra, Campbell and Northeastern. Since then it’s been a 4-1 stretch for the Cougars with only a loss to William & Mary. Otherwise the wins have come courtesy of Elon, Stony Brook, North Carolina A&T and Elon again. That gives Charleston an overall record of 19-6 over the first 25 games of the season so far.

In the home rematch with Elon on Saturday, the Cougars entered the second half with a 44-36 edge. Charleston was outscored 35-27 the rest of the way however, and needed overtime to power out the win 88-83 in the end. Ante Brzovic had a double-double with a team-high 27 points, 10 boards, five assists and three steals. Derrin Boyd added 24 points with three steals, two assists and three rebounds, while CJ Fulton had 14 points with five assists and two rebounds. Lazar Djokovic chipped in with six points and 10 boards as well.

UNC Wilmington Seahawks Betting Preview

Over on the UNC Wilmington side, they’ve been on a very consistent run so far this year as well. The Seahawks are enjoying a nice win streak right now, and they’ve only lost consecutive games once so far this year. Those two losses came in the fourth and fifth games versus Kansas and Colgate respectively. A 7-1 run with a loss to Howard amid wins over Sam Houston, App State, East Carolina, Marshall, Florida Gulf Coast, UNC Asheville and Spartanburg Methodist came next, then a loss to Towson. Following wins over Campbell and Monmouth then a loss to Hofstra, the Seahawks would then hit an eight-game win streak. Those have come versus Northeastern, William & Mary, Charleston, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, Stony Brook, Delaware and Drexel, giving the Seahawks a 20-5 record so far this year through their first 25 outings.

Matched up against Drexel in the Saturday game, the Seahawks had a tough battle on their hands. After giving away a 32-29 halftime edge, UNC Wilmington needed overtime to complete the 81-79 victory in the end. Sean Moore led the team on a double-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Greedy Williams had 14 points with seven boards, and Harlan Obioha had 14 points with five rebounds. leading the bench players in the win was Khamari McGriff with 16 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

UNC Wilmington vs Charleston Prediction

I’m going to try UNC Wilmington here, but you could make a case either way. The Seahawks need to play better than they did versus a middling Drexel team though. UNC Wilmington shot just 12-of-25 (48 percent) from the line in that one and coughed up 16 turnovers for 15 Dragons points.

That said, back on January 23 when these teams last saw each other the Seahawks took a tight road win 85-83 thanks to a nice 52.5 percent shooting and 17-of-19 (89.5 percent from the line. If UNC Wilmington can minimize the mistakes and stay strong in the home rematch they should be in good shape. It’ll be a great game to watch regardless.
