The San Diego Toreros and the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Thomas & Mack Center. San Diego is 7-5 so far this year. The Toreros took out Northern Arizona in their last game. As for UNLV, they’re 7-5 as well and coming off a win over Omaha. San Diego posted a 3-1 run over their first four games, then hit a 1-4 skid that included losses to CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Fresno State and South Alabama. Since then it’s been three straight wins over Cal Poly, Cal Lutheran and Northern Arizona.

In the Northern Arizona matchup, the Toreros were down 29-28 at the break. San Diego surged with a 41-30 run from there for a 69-59 win. Marcellus Earlington doubled up on 22 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes of work to lead the team.

Over on the UNLV side, they went 4-2 over their first six games this year with losses to Michigan and Wichita State. UNLV lost their next three games, then hit a three-game win streak over Seattle, Hartford and Omaha to move to 7-5 on the year.

Matched up against Omaha last Wednesday, the Rebels scored 35 points in the first half and 49 more from there in an 84-71 win. Bryce Hamilton was the top scorer on 26 points, five assists and four rebounds. Royce Hamm doubled on 16 points and 12 boards.

The Rebels are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 as a favorite and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 at home. UNLV is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 overall.

Meanwhile, the Toreros are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win. The under is 6-1 in San Diego’s last seven overall.

PICK: I’m probably going to stick with UNLV. The Rebels started slow against a not-so-good Omaha team in their last outing, but ultimately UNLV pulled it off with a big second half. Over this three-game win streak, the Rebels have hit 76 or more points in each game.

As for San Diego, they’ve put up some decent points totals here and there this season but they’re normally not a high-scoring team. The Toreros will probably keep up for a while here but I don’t think they’ll get into a cover.
