Radford managed to go 4-4 over their first eight games with wins over Emory & Henry, William & Mary, Eastern Kentucky and Kentucky Christian. The last four games have been losses to West Virginia, James Madison, George Washington and Davidson.
In the Davidson game back on December 18, the Highlanders were down 39-30 at halftime and scored just 24 more points from there in a 74-54 blowout loss. Both Bryan Heart and Shaquan Jules led the team with 12 points apiece.
Over on the USC Upstate side, they managed a 2-3 record over their first five games. Since then it’s been a 1-6 run with losses to Furman, NC Central, Western Carolina, Wake Forest, Tennessee and Ohio.
In the Ohio matchup on December 21, the Spartans scored 35 points in each half but couldn’t keep up in an eventual 85-70 loss. Bryson Mozone led the way on 18 points, and Jordan Gainey added 14 points with three boards.
USC Upstate is 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The Spartans are 4-0 ATS in the last four Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders are 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 overall. Radford is 0-5 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I suppose I’m going Radford. There’s not a whole lot to like here, though; it’s been a rough run for both teams and neither has seen the court in a while. In any case, Radford has been at 58 points or below in three of their last four games. The Highlanders have been able to find pretty good offense here and there against comparable squads, though. As for USC Upstate, they’ve hit 70 or more in three of their last five, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one as a fairly high-scoring game. I like Radford to eke out a cover, but I’m not going near this one.
