The Vermont Catamounts and the USC Trojans meet in college basketball action from the Galen Center on Tuesday night.
The Vermont Catamounts will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 94-85 OT loss to Cal State-Fullerton last time out. Dylan Penn led the way for Vermont with 27 points on 9 of 17 shooting with a team-high 4 assists while Aaron Deloney added 15 points on 4 of 12 shooting with 3 assists as the only other double-digit scorer for Vermont in the losing effort. Robin Duncan also added a team-high 7 rebounds as well in the defeat for the Catamounts.
The USC Trojans will be out to build on their 96-58 rout of Alabama State last time out. Drew Peterson led the Trojans with 21 points on 7 of 9 shooting with a team-high 6 assists and 6 rebounds while Boogie Ellis added 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting with a pair of threes and 4 assists. Reese Dixon-Waters added 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 3 threes and Joshua Morgan added 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting while Malik Thomas added 10 points to cap off the scoring in double figures for USC in the win. Tre White chipped in a team-high 12 rebounds off of the bench while Kobe Johnson chipped in 7 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists of his own in the victory.
Vermont is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss while the over is 10-3 in their last 13 road games. USC is 3-14 ATS in their last 17 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a win.
I get the case to be made for either side here, but I’m leaning towards USC. I just haven’t been impressed with Vermont early on and Vermont for me is a team you want on your side come conference play and tournament time. The Catamounts are usually slow starters in the step up games in non-conference play. USC had a rough start but I like some of the pieces the Trojans have going forward so I’ll lean USC’s way in this one.
