The San Diego State Aztecs and the Utah State Aggies meet Saturday in college basketball action from Smith Spectrum. Here’s a Utah State vs San Diego State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Utah State vs San Diego State pick.

San Diego State Aztecs Betting Preview

The Aztecs have been a pretty reliable team all year. They’re yet to suffer consecutive losses. San Diego State went 8-2 over their first 10 games, taking out UC San Diego, Occidental, Creighton, Houston, Fresno State, San Diego, Cal Baptist and California along the way. A spotty 3-3 run came next though, featuring losses to Utah State, New Mexico and UNLV among wins over Boise State, Air Force and Colorado State. Since then it’s been a 7-1 run for the Aztecs featuring a lone loss to Colorado State. Otherwise San Diego State took out Air Force, Nevada, San Jose State, Wyoming, San Jose State again, Boise State and Fresno State. That gives the Aztecs an 18-6 record over 24 games so far this year.

On Tuesday versus Fresno State, the Aztecs jumped out to a 43-23 halftime edge. San Diego State kept it up from there on a 40-37 run and took the victory 83-60 in the end. Nick Boyd led the team on his 19 points with seven assists and two rebounds. Magoon Gwath added 14 points with six rebounds and three blocks. Tops off the bench was Wayne McKinney with 15 points, two rebounds and two assists with one block in 27 minutes of work on the floor.

Utah State Aggies Betting Preview

Over on the Aggies’ side, they’ve been pretty effective themselves this year with only a handful of scattered losses. Utah State hit a 16-2 run out of the gate with wins over Alcorn State, Charlotte, Westminster UT, Montana, Iowa, St. Bonaventure, North Texas, Wyoming, Utah Tech, South Florida, Saint Mary’s, San Diego State, Nevada, Fresno State, San Jose State and Boise State. The next eight outings were a 6-2 run with losses to New Mexico (twice). Otherwise Utah State took wins over Nevada, Air Force, UNLV, Wyoming, Fresno State and Colorado State during that time, giving the team a 22-4 run through their first 26 outings.

Matched up against San Jose State on Wednesday, the Aggies didn’t have any issues. Utah State posted a 47-24 first half then hit a 58-33 run after the break during a 105-57 blowout victory. Leading the team in scoring was Ian Martinez with 22 points three boards, three assists and three steals. Tucker Anderson came off the bench for 11 points with two rebounds in 23 minutes as well. Both Mason Falslev and Dexter Akanno chipped in 13 points apiece during the victory.

Utah State vs San Diego State Prediction

I’m going to try San Diego State in this one. The Aztecs are coming off a pretty dominant win at home over a struggling Fresno State team. San Diego State shot a nice 54 percent from the field in that one with a 35-21 rebounding edge (11-4 offensive) and 20 points off 16 Bulldogs turnovers. There wasn’t much to complain about in that one, and it was the first time the Aztecs had eclipsed 69 points in a five-game span.

These teams last met up back on December 28 in a dramatic road win 67-66 for the Aggies. In that one San Diego State shot pretty poorly from the field on a 38.5 percent clip. It was a sloppy game overall as well, with the Aztecs contributing 16 of the game’s 31 total turnovers for 14 Aggies points on the other side. In this road rematch there’s plenty for San Diego State to clean up—and they’ve got to shoot better this time. If all goes well though I think the Aztecs can power one out.
