San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs posted a solid 16-5 run over their first 21 games this year. San Diego State lost to only BYU, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Boise State and Colorado State in that time. It’s been a 4-1 run since then with wins over Utah State, Air Force, Colorado State and New Mexico.

In the New Mexico matchup on Friday, the Aztecs jumped out to a 39-28 edge by the break. San Diego State kept the pace from there with 42 more points in an 81-70 victory. Tops in scoring was Jaedon LeDee with his 23 points, three rebounds and four steals.

Utah State Aggies

Over on the Aggies’ side, they only took one loss to Bradley over their first 17 outings this year. Since then, Utah State is 5-4 over the last nine games with wins over Fresno State, Boise State (twice), San Jose State and Wyoming. The losses were to New Mexico, San Diego State, Nevada and Colorado State otherwise.

In the Colorado State game over the weekend, the Aggies had a pretty rough outing. Utah State faced a 43-26 deficit by halftime and didn’t get any closer than that in an ensuing 32-29 run for a 75-55 loss. Lead scorer Great Osobor posted 15 points with 13 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE SAN DIEGO STATE VS UTAH STATE PREDICTION

I’ll lean toward Utah State in this one. The Aggies really need a good bounce-back game here, though. Utah State is coming off an ugly loss to Colorado State thanks to their 38.6 percent shooting and 45-32 rebounding deficit. In each of their last three losses, the Aggies have been below 68 points.

In their last meeting back on February 3, Utah State lost to the Aztecs 81-67 on the road. The Aggies shot 41 percent in that one along with 12 turnovers and a 39-30 rebounding disadvantage. With the change in venue for the rematch I like Utah State to produce a better effort, but it’s probably a coin flip. It’ll be a fun one to watch regardless, though.
