Texas-Arlington has had some difficulties finding wins so far this season. The Mavericks got a win 104-75 over Mary Hardin-Baylor in game two, but otherwise lost three of their first four to Oklahoma State, Abilene Christian and North Texas.
Game five against San Diego State was another loss for the Mavericks. UT-Arlington was down 31-28 at halftime and scored 34 more points from there in a 68-62 defeat. Pedro Castro led the way on his 17 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Utah State side, their year started off on a sour note against UC Davis with a 72-69 defeat. The Aggies bounced back well in their next three, taking out Richmond, Penn and New Mexico State in succession.
Utah State kept it going back on Sunday in their last game versus Oklahoma. The Aggies managed a two-point edge in the first half and maintained it in a 73-70 win. Justin Bean led the team on a double-double with 24 points and 19 boards.
Utah State is 4-1 ATS in their last five at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. The over is 4-0 in the Aggies’ last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 road games. TX-Arlington is 0-6 ATS in the last six after an ATS win.Â
PICK: I’m going with Utah State. This line is thick enough to give me second thoughts, though. The Aggies are coming off another impressive performance against Oklahoma. Utah State shot 41.8 percent from the field in that one, collecting 39 rebounds and 16 assists. The Aggies also put up a key 20-of-21 (95.2 percent) from the line in the win.Â
As for UT-Arlington, it’s been a rough run so far. The Mavericks played fairly well against San Diego State in their last game; they just couldn’t get over the proverbial hump. I’m not sure UT-Arlington has the legs to keep up with Utah State if the Aggies get to scoring early, but we’ll see.
