Utah Valley had a decent overall season in 2021-22, going 20-12 throughout the year. The Wolverines were a tepid 10-8 in the WAC games however, leaving the team in seventh place in the conference standings.
Utah Valley had trouble sustaining win streaks in the conference games last season, posting more than two consecutive victories just once (three) all year. The Wolverines beat Chicago State in the WAC Tournament then fell to Abilene Christian in the second round.
Over on the Utah State side, they managed to go 18-16 overall in 2021-22. The Aggies were 8-10 in Mountain West Conference matchups, which left the team in seventh place in the standings behind Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Wyoming, UNLV and Fresno State.
Utah State won just one of their first six conference games, but then hit a five-game win streak that left the team at 15-9 overall. The Aggies would win just two of their remaining seven games and ultimately fell to Colorado State in the conference tourney. After an NIT selection Utah State lost to Oregon in the first round.
The Wolverines are 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games. Utah State is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Monday games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven overall.
PICK: I might take a stab on Utah Valley here. The team will have to deal with the departure of Fardaws Aimaq this season (he left for Texas Tech) and someone will have to fill in his 18.9 PPG in production. That said, the Wolverines will get most of their players back (including Trey Woodbury) along with the incoming Tahj Small. It’s going to take some luck, but the team has the potential to hit the 20-win mark again in 2022-23. I think they’ll come out firing in this one.
