Temple limped to a 1-3 start this year with losses to USC, Clemson and Boise State. Since then Temple is 4-0. The Owls have beaten Elon, Delaware, La Salle and Penn in their last four games to move to 5-3 on the season.
In the Penn game, Temple posted a 39-27 edge in the first half and cruised to an 81-72 win. Top scorer Damian Dunn put up 27 points with six rebounds, and Jake Forrester added 21 points with nine boards in 32 minutes.
Over on the Vanderbilt side, they went 3-1 in their first four games with wins over Alabama State, Texas State and Winthrop. The Commodores kept it going with wins over Pittsburgh and MS Valley State, but then lost to SMU on Saturday.
Over the weekend in the SMU matchup, Vanderbilt had a solid 40-28 halftime lead. The second half was a different story however, as the Commodores were outscored 56-32 in an 84-72 loss. Scotty Pippen Jr. led the team on 29 points with four rebounds.
The Commodores are 6-2-3 ATS in their last 11 at home and 13-4-4 ATS in their last 21 overall. Vanderbilt is 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Owls are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Temple is 3-7 ATS in their lsat 10 Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Temple here. The Owls are coming off a nice game versus Penn, shooting 50.9 percent from the field with 33 rebounds and 13 team assists. Temple has scored well lately, with 73 or more points in each of their last four (all wins).
As for Vanderbilt, they had a bad second half against SMU in their last game. That said the Commodores have 68 or more points in each of the last four and should be able to put up some points here. Ultimately I like Temple better on the cover, though.
