The Dayton Flyers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 14-7 on the season after defeating the Rhode Island Rams, 53-51, this past Friday. Dayton led by a 29-25 margin at halftime and was able to hold on the win late after taking a 49-42 lead with 2:41 left in regulation. Dayton shot 30.9% from the field & 27.3% from beyond the arc while allowing Rhode Island to shoot 42.3% from the field & 22.2% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Flyers was Toumani Camara who had a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, & 1 block.

Offensively, Dayton has been led by DaRon Holmes II (11.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.2 apg, 2.7 bpg), Toumani Camara (10.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.9 apg), Malachi Smith (10.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.9 spg), & Kobe Elvis (7.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.8 apg).

Defensively, Dayton is holding their opponents to an average of 60.7 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Flyers have a rebound margin of 6.8 and a turnover margin of -1.9.

The VCU Rams won their 3rd straight game and improved to 13-6 on the season after defeating the Richmond Spiders, 64-62, this past Saturday. VCU was outstanding defensively against Richmond and was able to pull away later after a three-pointer by Vince Williams Jr. gave the Rams a 64-61 lead with :25 seconds left in regulation. VCU shot 50.9% from the field & 40.0% from beyond the arc while holding Richmond to 35.5% shooting from the field & 18.2% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Rams was Vince Williams Jr. who had a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 blocks, & 1 steal.

On the season, VCU is averaging 63.5 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 5.8 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, VCU has been led by Vince Williams Jr. (12.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.7 spg, 1.2 bpg), Adrian Baldwin Jr. (10.6 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 5.2 apg, 3.4 spg), KeShawn Curry (9.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.2 spg), & Jayden Nunn (8.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, VCU is holding their opponents to an average of 58.9 ppg on 37.9% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of -3.5 and a turnover margin of 3.0.

The Flyers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games & just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. VCU. The Rams are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games & 7-0 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games.

Dayton has been led by their defense which ranks 20th in scoring defense, 77th in defensive FG%, & 26th in rebound margin, however, despite shooting the ball well from the field (52nd in FG%), the Flyers have struggled putting points up on the scoreboard as Dayton currently ranks just 264th in scoring offense. VCU has also been led by their defense which ranks 9th in scoring defense & 12th in defensive FG%, however, the Rams have really struggled offensively and come into this matchup ranked just 324th in scoring offense, 170th in FG%, & t-310th in three-pointers made per game.

Dayton is a good team that certainly can give teams trouble with their solid defense, however, the Flyers are just 2-3 on the road this season and certainly can struggle offensively as we saw in their last road game against George Mason in which they put up just 49 points. VCU is a great defensive team that is playing some great basketball as of late with road wins against Davidson & Richmond and as I think Vince Williams Jr. finds some offensive success against Dayton, I’m taking the Rams to do enough to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
