The Davidson Wildcats and the VCU Rams meet Friday in college basketball action from Siegel Center. Here’s a VCU vs Davidson prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best VCU vs Davidson pick.

Davidson Wildcats Betting Preview

Davidson kicked off the season on a pretty good clip, but they’ve struggled a bit since mid-January or so. The Wildcats took out William Peace, Bowling Green, East Tennessee State, VMI, Providence, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Detroit, Bethune-Cookman, Eastern Michigan, Duquesne, and Fordham during a 12-4 opening run. Since then Davidson has wins over only Richmond (twice), UMass, and Fordham. Otherwise, it’s been losses versus La Salle, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph’s, George Mason, Dayton, George Washington, Loyola Chicago, and Saint Louis. That gives the Wildcats a 16-12 overall run through 28 games this year.

In the Saint Louis home matchup on Tuesday, the Wildcats came out of the break sporting a 27-18 advantage. Davidson fell behind from there on a 39-29 run, though, and ended up taking a tough loss 57-56 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Connor Kochera, who mustered 22 points with six boards and three assists in 35 minutes during the losing effort. The only other player on the team to finish in double-figures was Reed Bailey with 14 points, five assists, and two rebounds in 37 minutes of work. Tops off the bench was Manie Joses with his seven points, three rebounds, and two steals in 21 minutes during the losing effort.

VCU Rams Betting Preview

Over on the Rams’ side, they’ve had a couple of brief spotty runs so far this year. Overall, however, VCU is doing quite well in the record column. The Rams lost to only Seton Hall and Nevada during a 9-2 opening stretch. A 1-2 run came next with a win over William & Mary in between losses to New Mexico and Saint Bonaventure. Since then VCU has just one loss versus Saint Louis on January 28. Otherwise, it’s been victories over Loyola, Fordham, Saint Louis, Saint Joseph’s, Rhode Island, Saint Bonaventure, Richmond, La Salle, Dayton, George Washington, UMass, George Mason, and Richmond in that time. In total, that gives the Rams a 23-5 overall record across the first 28 games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Matched up against Richmond on the road Tuesday, the Rams came out of the locker room with a commanding edge 51-33. VCU kept it going on a 27-27 second half and took the win in the end, 78-60. Leading the team in scoring was Max Shulga with 16 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Joe Bamisile added 13 points with eight boards and three assists in 27 minutes, while Phillip Russell had 11 points with two assists. Tops off the bench was Zeb Jackson on 10 points, six rebounds and three assists alongside one steal in 27 minutes of work on the floor.

Why the VCU Rams will win

  • VCU has won each of its last 14 games at Stuart C. Siegel Center.
  • Davidson has lost eight of its last 10 night games against the Atlantic 10 Conference.
  • VCU has won the first half in 10 of its last 11 night games at Stuart C. Siegel Center.

Why the Davidson Wildcats will win

  • The road team has won each of Davidson’s last five games.
  • The road team has won the first half in five of Davidson’s last six games.

VCU vs Davidson Prediction

I’ll stay with VCU. The Rams are coming off a solid road win over a struggling Richmond team this week, hitting a smooth 56 percent from the field with a 34-21 rebounding edge and 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from 3-point range. VCU did have 11 turnovers for 14 Richmond points but countered it with a nice performance from the line on 11-of-13 (84.6 percent). During this current seven-game win streak, the Rams have notched at least 70 points in every game and 80 or more in four of them.

As for Davidson, they lost steam in the second half during their latest defeat by Saint Louis. The Wildcats ended up shooting just 37.9 percent from the field with a 38-32 rebounding deficit. Davidson has been below 70 points in three of the last four games (all three were losses), so they’ll need to get it going quickly on Friday.
