The Memphis Tigers and the VCU Rams meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Siegel Center. The Tigers have lost consecutive games, falling to 5-2 with a three-point defeat by Ole Miss in their last appearance. As for VCU, they’ve lost three of the last four games, most recently versus Norfolk State on Friday. Let’s get into our Memphis vs. VCU prediction. Memphis Tigers 

The Tigers kicked things off this year with a five-game win streak. Those victories came over Jackson State, Missouri, Alabama State, Michigan and Arkansas. Game six was Memphis’ first loss however, as they fell 79-63 to Villanova. The Tigers shot a middling 35.1 percent from the field in the defeat. 

Memphis made it consecutive losses with their matchup versus Ole Miss. The Tigers were more competitive in this one, going into halftime with a seven-point lead. Memphis was outscored 50-40 from there in an 80-77 result, though. Lead scorer David Jones managed 22 points with seven rebounds and two assists.

VCU Rams 

Over on the Rams’ side, they went 3-1 over their first four games this year with wins versus Samford, Radford and Seattle. After that came losses to Iowa State and Boise State before a win over Penn State 86-74. In the win over the Nittany Lions, VCU shot a nice 53.8 percent from the field with 36 rebounds. 

VCU fell back into the loss column with their last matchup versus Norfolk State. The Rams were down by three points at the break and didn’t end up getting closer in a 63-60 result. Tops in scoring was Zeb Jackson with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists. 

ANDREW’S FREE MEMPHIS VS VCU PREDICTION 

I’ll probably try Memphis here. The Tigers didn’t play terribly versus Ole Miss in their last outing, shooting 42.5 percent from the field with 42 rebounds. Memphis’ 16.7 percent from 3-point range (3-of-18) didn’t help matters, though. The good news for the Tigers is that they’ve hit 71 or more points in six of seven games so far. This one should be a pretty high-scoring game as well. 

As for the Rams, they’re coming off a pretty uninspiring game themselves. VCU has been at 64 or fewer points in three of their last four games (all losses), so they’ll need a turnaround on the scoreboard Wednesday. I don’t think the Rams will quite get there.
