VCU vs Richmond 3/11/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Richmond Spiders and the VCU Rams meet Friday in Atlantic 10 college basketball action from Capital One Arena. Richmond is currently 20-12 on the year. The Spiders beat Rhode Island in their tournament matchup Thursday. As for VCU, they’re sitting at 21-8 overall and coming off a loss to Saint Louis. Richmond had a few bad stretches during the regular season, but all in all they succeeded more often than not. The Spiders began March with a couple of consecutive losses to Dayton and St. Bonaventure before a comeback win over Rhode Island Thursday. 

In the Thursday tourney matchup versus Rhode Island, Richmond was down 21-35 after a rough first half. The Spiders rebounded with a 43-24 second-half run to take the comeback win 64-59. Tyler Burton doubled up in the victory with 12 points and 11 boards. 

Over on the VCU side, their year started out on a sketchy 3-4 run but the Rams have righted the ship since then. VCU had a nice 11-1 run going recently (with a lone loss to Dayton) but fell to Saint Louis in their most recent appearance. 

On Saturday versus Saint Louis, the Rams were drilled 24-41 in the first half alone. VCU got better on a 41-28 second-half run but still lost 69-65. Tops in scoring was Vince Williams on 26 points and four rebounds. 

PICK: I’m probably going to stay with VCU. The Rams are coming off a sluggish first half versus Saint Louis in their last game. VCU has done well lately otherwise, though. The Rams have hit 71 or more points in seven of their last nine games and should score well here also. 

As for Richmond, they were able to escape against Rhode Island Thursday but the team hasn’t played great over the last few games. The Spiders were close in the home matchup against VCU this year (64-62) but were blown out 77-57 in the last meeting February 18. I’m not sure the Spiders will be able to keep the pace here.
