The Richmond Spiders and the VCU Rams meet Friday in college basketball action from Siegel Center. Richmond is 14-14 overall so far. The Spiders powered out a win over Saint Louis in their last game. As for VCU, they’re 21-7 this year following a win over Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Richmond Spiders

Richmond began their year above .500, hitting an 11-9 run through 20 games. It’s been a 3-5 stretch since then however, with losses to UMass, Dayton, St. Bonaventure, George Washington and La Salle in that time.

On Tuesday in the Saint Louis matchup, the Spiders took a 36-27 deficit into the locker room. Richmond posted a 54-42 run in the second and took the win 81-78. Tyler Burton was the leading team scorer on 20 points and nine rebounds.

VCU Rams

Over on the VCU side, they were 15-5 over their first 20 outings. The Rams are on a nice 6-2 stretch over the last eight games, though. The wins in that time were over George Mason, Davidson, Saint Louis, Rhode Island, Fordham and Saint Joseph’s again.

In the rematch versus Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday, the Rams were up 40-30 going into the second half. VCU kept rolling on a 48-33 stretch and took the victory 88-63. Jayden Nunn managed 31 points with four rebounds in the win.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with VCU here. The Rams are fresh off a dominant effort versus a struggling Saint Joseph’s team and playing well lately. VCU has won three straight, and they’ve scored a combined 168 points across their last pair. The Rams managed a win 74-62 the last time these teams met up on January 20 at Robins Center. I like VCU to post another strong effort in the home rematch and power out the cover.

Andrew's Free Pick: VCU Rams -9.5
