The NJIT Highlanders and the Vermont Catamounts meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Patrick Gym. NJIT is 8-11 this year. The Highlanders lost to Albany in their last game. As for Vermont, they’re 16-4 so far and fresh off a win over Albany. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

NJIT had a pretty good 8-5 run to start the season, but they’re 0-6 in their last six outings. During that stretch, the Highlanders have fallen to UMBC, Albany, Vermont, Binghamton, UMBC again and Albany again.

Back on Saturday versus Albany, the Highlanders were outscored 30-19 in the first half and limped to an eventual 64-53 loss. Leading the scoring was Miles Coleman with 15 points and eight boards. Dylan O’Hearn added 11 points as well.

Over on the Vermont side, they hit a choppy 6-4 stretch to open the year. The Catamounts have since won 10 straight over Colgate, New Hampshire, Stony Brook, UMBC, NJIT, Hartford, Stony Brook, Maine and Albany.

In the Albany game on Monday, the Catamounts posted a 34-29 first-half lead and a 39-32 run from there in a 73-61 win. Ryan Davis led the way on 17 points and five rebounds. Ben Shungu added 16 points with five boards and three assists.

Vermont is 5-0 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall. The over is 11-1 in the Catamounts’ last 12 overall.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders are 8-1 ATS in their last nine road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. The over is 4-1 in NJIT’s last five after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Vermont, even though that line’s a little thick. The Catamounts have looked great over this winning streak. They’ve hit 70 or more points in each game, and 80 or more points in seven of 10 outings. NJIT hasn’t seen 70 points in any of their last seven outings (nearly a month), so it’s going to be tough for the Highlanders to keep up here. Vermont should have a clear road to a cover if they can keep it rolling.
