The NJIT Highlanders and the Vermont Catamounts meet Sunday in college basketball action from Patrick Gym. NJIT comes into this game at 5-13 overall. The Highlanders lost to Bryant in their last outing. As for Vermont, they’re 9-10 following a win over Maine on Thursday. NJIT went 3-11 over their first 14 games, beating only Sacred Heart, Niagara and St. Elizabeth along the way. The Highlanders are 2-2 since then with victories over Maine and Albany alongside losses to Binghamton and Bryant.
On Thursday versus Bryant, the Highlanders were trailing 43-35 going into the second half. NJIT couldn’t get any closer on a 44-40 deficit from there and lost 87-75. Kevin Osawe doubled up on 20 points and 11 rebounds in the defeat.
Over on the Vermont side, they managed to beat Brown, Ball State, Lyndon State, Merrimack, Dartmouth and Colgate in their first 14 games. The Catamounts are 3-2 since then with wins over UMBC, Bryant and Maine.
In the Maine game on Thursday, the Catamounts went into the break with a 36-20 lead. Vermont posted a 30-25 run from there and won it 66-45. Leading scorers Finn Sullivan and TJ Hurley put up 13 points and five rebounds each.

I’ll stick with Vermont here. The Catamounts played pretty well against a struggling Maine team in their last outing and they should match up well in this one also. Vermont has scored 66 or fewer points in three straight games however, so they’ll want to get the offense moving quickly. As for NJIT, they’ve hit 71 or more points in four straight games and could give Vermont some trouble if they’re playing well. It’ll be an interesting matchup if nothing else.
